They both apparently began around same time: late 2004. 
bsdcertification.ORG was publically announced later although we did have 
some informal discussions and planning in 2004.

The bsdcertification.ORG group is made up of several key figures in the 
BSD community including committers to three projects. As far as we know, 
none of our .ORG Group knows the people behind the .com project.

In addition, our .ORG Group is working hard to have public discussion and 
feedback and to have a public community. You can see that in action 
with our recent survey and now the great report that was published.

Next up for the .ORG group is a "roadmap".
