In additon to Marc's comments which I agree.. also consider...
Although numbers vary according to usage, I find that /usr usually uses
4GB or less...

you have your data somewhere else.
/data or some other name.. the rest of the disk
Depending on your setup you may also want to create a separate /tmp
So far have never used more than 2 to 4 GB on /usr
