This is a question, not an opinion. What harm would adding the an 'f'
(forest, a la pstree) output switch, cause to bsd ps?  I don't know that
anything else would be required -- just a little work to take the "ps
-axwo pid,user,ppid,command" output and make some ascii art from the
ppid (a little hierchy art is inserted at the front of the "command"
output string).
