oh.. Most USB/Serial adapters are for straight thru..  you will probably need a female/female db9 null coupler.  You can make one or, as I did, find them on the web for only a couple of bucks (http://www.deepsurplus.com/s.nl/sc.2/category.7/it.A/id.831/.f)
