Friend of mine just came to visit - he has a Clear thingy.  It worked 
swimmingly everywhere from Manhattan to eastern Long Island.  He has the 
iPad one, but uses it with his MacBook.  Shhh.  Hardware's cheap, 
monthly rates are cheap if you get that one, and customer support seemed 
on the ball, at least in terms of responsiveness.
