# Description: As a Java developer in the Middle Office Technology group you will be responsible for analysis, design and development on a critical multi-year project to build a new global middle office transaction processing system. This is a large scale service based infrastructure and application space and is being extended to support Equities, Futures and Fixed Income products. The project is a distributed in-memory component based solution written in Java running on Linux.

Other technologies being used include Sybase, C# and XML. The development for this project is distributed over multiple locations and you will routinely be working as part of a global team.

Principal Responsibilities The following items indicate the different duties that would be performed for this position.
* Analyze, design, develop, test, install and maintain information systems
* Translate business and technical requirements into well-engineered business applications
* Design, evaluate and select tools necessary to build and support systems.
* Learn about all aspects of the businesses serviced in the post execution space (trade booking, trade reporting, confirmations, etc.)

Experience/Skills Seeking a candidate with 2-4 years of full lifecycle software development experience. The ideal candidate will be pragmatic with a passion for software engineering or development. The candidate should have the foundations of a good architect/engineer with a critical eye towards software design and strong coding skills while aspiring to grow their career in this direction.

The applicant for this position should have extensive experience architecting large, modular systems outside the Web domain. She/he should be able to design for scalability, flexibility, maintainability and performance.

The candidate should be able to:
* Design and develop code to support new features and improve existing functionality.
* Develop highly scalable solutions for business object and database interaction.
* Develop code to interface with communications protocol APIs (Java RMI).

Required:
* The candidate must have very strong OO skills. Extensive knowledge of Java is expected but other OO languages will be considered, such as Smalltalk or Objective-C.
* Extensive experience with SQL and relational databases is also necessary, with specialization in Sybase a plus.
* Excellent problem solving, organizational, interpersonal and rapport skills
* BSCS or BSEE is expected; MS is preferred

Candidate should also have strong communication and teamwork to be able to work effectively in a global environment. Financial industry experience, especially business knowledge of Equities, Futures or Fixed Income transaction processing and products is a plus. Experience programming in a real-time systems environment on high volume transaction processing systems is desirable.
