Job spec is bellow. I am looking for someone who has extensive knowledge of
Sun architecture and is familiar with AIX and open source stuff. Of course
BSD is always very much appreciated. Salary is very much industry

System Engineer 
Time line: Full Time position
Report to: Directory of System Engineering
 
 
You will be a member of the Medical Center System Engineering team.
Individuals in this position are generally assigned to a variety of tasks of
medium to broad scope that require a command of and solid proficiency in
enterprise applications. Daily responsibilities will include designing,
architecting and updating all Medical Center IT systems.  Collaborates with
and gathers technical requirements from the application technical teams to
enhance functionality, security, and efficiency of enterprise application
system infrastructures and related technical components.  You are also
expected to influence team members and other staff to support and analyze
work that has a broad impact on the organization.  They usually work
independently except on very complex tasks.
Develops overall technical implementation or upgrade project plans.
Develops and documents contingency and risk mitigation plans for enterprise
application infrastructures.  Researches, evaluates and recommends new
enterprise applications or upgrades to existing enterprise application
system infrastructures and related technical components.    Conducts
analysis, planning, installations, and testing of system software and
provides continuous improvement solutions to meet business requirements.
Implements solutions by modifying the enterprise application system
infrastructure components through development of auxiliary programs,
installations, patches and upgrades.  Communicates status of projects and
plans to all stakeholders. Produces infrastructure related system
architecture documentation.
Researches, analyzes and resolves problems, providing root-cause analysis
for enterprise application system infrastructures and related technical
components. Provides consultation, analysis and problem resolution to
application technical teams.  Successfully performs and completes service
requests. Consults with software vendor support to research, identify and
resolve problems.  Refines and/or reengineers support processes to prevent
problems resulting in system outages.
Provides on-call/callback and Tier II Help Desk technical production support
for enterprise application system infrastructures and related technical
components.  Reviews and monitors system infrastructure to ensure overall
system support and stability.
Tunes application infrastructures and related technical components to
achieve peak performance. Develops and tests programs to provide capacity
planning data for input into hardware sizing application configurations.
Develops and test programs to supply underlying data in support of internal
software licensing and asset management tracking systems.
 
Primary Responsibilities Include:
* Engineering of Unix-based systems to support applications (custom and
commercial), databases, infrastructure services, messaging services and all
platform services. 
* Developing specifications, action plans and documentation for NYU Medical
Center systems. 
* Working with NYUMC IT teams, vendors and industry partners to keep Medical
Center systems running in optimal configurations
* Working with System Administrators to ensure availability of applications,
and resolving any problems that may impact systems. (Including 24x7
responsibilities) 
 
Qualifications:
 
* Experience with managing large-scale Sun Solaris server environment
* Minimally 5+ years of experience managing Sun Solaris
* Strong experience with formalized and streamlined system configurations
and designs 
* Expertise on managing DNS required (enterprise DNS designing experience a
plus) 
* Demonstrated experience in process automation (Unix Shell Scripting,
Python, Windows Scheduler, Perl, etc.)
* Solid experience with security and networking
* Experience with Linux and AIX preferred
* Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible application system
administration experience utilizing applicable system infrastructures.
* 
* 
* Minimum of 3 years experience designing and building systems in a
Unix-based client/server environment and 2 years experience with programming
applications/systems using UNIX scripting language.
* 
* 
* Demonstrated understanding of enterprise application system
infrastructures and related technical components.
* 
* 
* Demonstrated ability to work in a self-directed manner, skillfully manage
complex projects, and stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments
and apply the knowledge in the workplace.
* 
* 
* Demonstrated analysis and technical problem solving skills.
* Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and information
effectively both verbally and in writing.
