I'm currently working on a Senior Systems Administration position with a well-established client of mine in Brooklyn. This position is with Wireless Generation (www.wirelessgeneration.com). If you're unfamiliar, they are a company that creates innovative tools, systems, and services that help educators teach smarter. They currently serves more than 200,000 educators and 3 million students. They were bought by Newscorp in 2008 for 160MM and are currently at about 400 employees.

 

We have a very close relationship with the hiring manager for this role. We placed him in his last position and have been working directly with him since 2008. 
 
Below is some more information on the role.  

 

Job Description: 

The Systems Administrator will help manage the creation of tools and processes that allow our development teams to quickly and efficiently release our educational software products.

Responsibilities for Systems Administrator: 






	- Deploy and ensure proper instrumentation of software components in all environments from development through production 


	- Work closely with other Operations teams and Developers to aid in the successful release of software and to ensure reliability of the production site


	- Maintain effective monitoring of key production services


	- Manage availability, capacity and performance of the firm's production stack (web, application, database and storage)


	- Configure application load balancing (F5 experience a plus), and troubleshoot issues related to load balancing and web traffic


	- Measure the impact of changes to content, applications, networks and infrastructure


Requirements for Systems Administrator: 



	- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience is required followed by 3+ years of relevant experience.


	- Deep understanding of networks, routing, switching, firewalls, load-balancing, high availability, disaster recovery, the OSI network model, web and application server technologies (apache, IIS, jboss, tomcat) caching technologies (memcached), virtualization (VMware), file systems, databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Vertica), storage infrastructure and storage area networks, trending and capacity planning.


	- Familiarity with concepts and usage of source control (git a plus).


	- Process oriented and meticulous work habits.


	- Extensive scripting experience on Unix and/or Windows platforms (bash, perl, python, powershell, tcl).


	- Experience with configuration management tools.
