I use IPsec, as documented here:

My wireless has a dedicated dual homed gateway.  It'll give out DHCP 
addresses to just about anyone that tries, but you can't get through 
without IPsec.  And for that, you need to know the shared secret.  
This works for my laptop whether it's running XP or FreeBSD.
