Hey Megan-

Apple moved away from Netinfo after 10.2 and now encourages the use of  
LDAP for this sort of thing.  We have a similar setup here and it runs  
very smoothly.  Apple provides some good documentation here:

Another great resource is Richard MacLemale's site.  He has thoroughly  
documented the steps needed to get a networked home directory setup  
running with OS 10.3-
