heard about it today as well. and it sounds interesting / ambitious.  and I hope it works out.   The hardest part is always adoption /inclusion by the OS vendors / browser makers.  hopefully with backing it has this will be less of an issue.   

I’ve been using Self signed certs forever, but with cheap ssl certs readily available I’ve just been using them lately, since for < $5 per year it isn’t worth the hassle of installing my own Root Certs..
