Position: Manager of Metrics Development
Location: New York City



About.com is looking for a talented software developer to lead its
Metrics Development team.  A Metrics Developer designs and builds
reliable and flexible log and click processing systems as well as post
processing systems to measure and report the effectiveness of various
initiatives and products in a UNIX-centric environment. The
environment conceptually is a 3 tier system focusing on real-time
event measurement and alerts, standard periodic processing, and ad hoc
analysis.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with data warehousing based on
web server logs in a large scale and efficient manner as well as an
active problem solver who is able to identify and fill in missing
product details and requirements. This position calls for a motivated
hands-on team player that believes both in Agile Software Development
and leveraging existing Open Source Solutions.

Responsibilities:



·         Ensure for the reliable processing of real-time, daily,
weekly, and monthly metrics systems

·         Ensure Compensation systems are reliable and accurate

·         Create world class, cost-effective, reliable metrics systems
in a full project life-cycle environment: design, build, test,
implement, support (including real-time), troubleshoot, and enhance

·         Continue to proactively improve and enhance metrics systems
by bringing new ideas and methods into the team

·         Indirectly and at times directly support consumers of
About.com metrics

·         Supervise a team of four


Requirements:



·         SQL,Perl, Java, C/C++

·         Familiar with non-SQL scalable solutions including hive
systems such as Hadoop

·         Solid UNIX user and developer skills

·         Experience with database performance analysis and optimization

·         Highly adaptive to change

·         The understand and commitment to what reliable metrics mean
to driving business success

·         Business and Internet acumen

·         Good communication and teaming skills in multiple mediums
(email, aim, face-to-face)

·         Good problem solving abilities and ability to learn new
technologies on the fly

·         Demonstrable relevant job experience

·         The ability to lead and inspire a small team in a medium
sized organization
