Ah Pook very kindly sent me another link

with a link to "Catalog and More" that doesn't use java.  

My dad is happy, as he can now browse the Westchester library catalog
without IE, but I still think it merits a complaint.    I did send a
note of complaint to my friend (ironically enough, we haven't seen each
other for several years--at that time, I was defending MS and he was
just getting into Unix), but as he IS a martial arts teacher, it was a
very polite complaint.  :)
