Mine complains loudly if I do something like set my authorized_keys file 
to group writable, or set the ownership wrong:

Aug  7 00:43:46 miko su: spork to root on /dev/ttyp3
Aug  7 00:44:19 miko sshd[33117]: Authentication refused: bad ownership or 
modes for file /home/spork/.ssh/authorized_keys

FreeBSD	4.11, stock openssh.
