The only people I've heard suggest their industry or business is a
meritocracy are people at the top. I'm not brilliant or gorgeous, but
all the same, I feel like I've had low times when others had plenty of
work who maybe shouldn't have in those circumstances. This is what I've
learned:
-live below your means. Save up money with the expectation that things
will go wrong. Have hidden supplies of cash at home for yourself and
your family in case you need it fast and ATMs are not working.
-make hay while the sun shines. when you can work 15 hours a day and get
paid for it, thank God and take on as much as you can handle. At least
for a while.
-be able to do more than one thing for money.
-Network like mad. Help out people for free whenever you can. Always
help out recruiters.
-be cool. don't take things personally, be an asset under pressure.
-pray
Josh
