It turns out that there was a bug--after some correspondence with the
maintainer, I submitted it to the fluxbox people on sourceforge and they
came back with a patch, that works, in a few hours. 

The maintainer should get the patch in pretty quickly, but if anyone HAS
to upgrade their fluxbox right now, the patch is available at
sourceforge at
