They are as follows: Chris Buechler: BSD Firewalling with pfSense: BSDConD2T4 Michael Lucas: BSD Needs Books :BSDConD2T5 Jim Brown: BSD Professional Certification Update: The Lab Exam: BSDConD1T1 Please review when you can and let me know if anything seems out of place. I have added a BSDTV bump at the end of each video. The audio is a bit low on the bump, but better done than perfect. More to follow. Enjoy. A first for NYCBSDCon, and maybe the first in the history of open source conferences this was done without a paid 3rd party, AFAIK! ;) g From mwlucas at blackhelicopters.org Sat Mar 5 18:35:15 2011 From: mwlucas at blackhelicopters.org (Michael W. We're sure this echos the thoughts of the rest of NYCBUG. We do know that they canceled the tutorials, but other than that, the conference is moving forward. * * * The New York City *BSD User Group would like to extend its support for AsiaBSDCon in the troubled circumstances in which the conference is operating. We are greatly impressed that the AsiaBSDCon organizers are still capable of conducting the conference. GCS/Lee is closing shop soon. They were a low-cost grey-box hardware vendor that lots of us used on 37th street. They were always helpful, quick to reply and dead-honest. I know many many people used them on this list for boxes, last-minute hardware parts, etc., on a regular basis. I have known and utilized them since they fax spammed my job in 1995, the year they opened. In 1995, fax spamming wasn't so intrusive or common ;) GCS sponsored NYCBSDCon 2010, but in normal Lee fashion, he was more concerned with giving us sponsorship money than having any presence. They will be sorely missed by lots of us. g From ike at blackskyresearch.net Tue Mar 22 09:09:09 2011 From: ike at blackskyresearch.net (Isaac Levy) Date: Tue, 22 Mar 2011 09:09:09 -0400 Subject: [nycbug-talk] GCS In-Reply-To: <4D888D08.5070002@ceetonetechnology.com> References: <4D888D08.5070002@ceetonetechnology.com> Message-ID: <201103221310.p2MDA3Mh016970@rs75.luxsci.com> On Mar 22, 2011, at 7:50 AM, George Rosamond wrote: > This is a bit of an unusual post, but I think it's appropriate since lots of people on this list use them. . . > > GCS/Lee is closing shop soon. Lee and everyone at GCS have been the most honorable, honest hardware vendors I'll ever work with. Can I tell my GCS story here? :) Several years ago I was back in NYC working on set for a feature film - it'd be several years since I'd done any work in NYC and was totally lost when it came to finding computer parts. As luck would have it, on a friday afternoon our production offices entire network collapsed right before a full weekend of shooting was about to happen. I pinged George who pointed me to GCS and Lee agreed to stay open late for me. I literally ran to GCS and Lee hooked me up with a switch and if I remember correctly some random computer parts. through the magic of redbull - i ran back to the production office on the west side cobbeled together a sorta working office LAN and WAN connection back to LA and shooting went ahead as scheduled all weekend. and just think...if George didn't point me to GCS spider-man 3 never would have been made, and millions of childhood memories would still be intact! ok, now that's just wishfull thinking :) -pete -- Pete Wright pete at nomadlogic.org From george at ceetonetechnology.com Tue Mar 22 15:26:24 2011 From: george at ceetonetechnology.com (George Rosamond) Date: Tue, 22 Mar 2011 15:26:24 -0400 Subject: [nycbug-talk] GCS In-Reply-To: <20110322165503.GI2354@pv.nomadlogic.org> References: <4D888D08.5070002@ceetonetechnology.com> <20110322165503.GI2354@pv.nomadlogic.org> Message-ID: <4D88F7E0.1070609@ceetonetechnology.com> On 03/22/11 12:55, Pete Wright wrote: > On Tue, Mar 22, 2011 at 07:50:32AM -0400, George Rosamond wrote: >> This is a bit of an unusual post, but I think it's appropriate since >> lots of people on this list use them. . . >> >> GCS/Lee is closing shop soon. If anyone's interested, hit me off-list because an alternative may be spawning from the ashes of GCS.
