Message-ID: Hey everyone, It's been a while since I've been able to attend the online meetings, so I missed out on a few good talks I wanted to attend. Has anyone been recording streams of the talks for later viewing? Last month's meeting about OpenBSD gaming sounded pretty interesting: https://www.nycbug.org/index?action=view&id=10681 If this one's been recorded for posterity, is the video available anywhere? I'd love to check it out. Hope everyone's doing well! --Robert -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... One thing I stumbled on was this comment about a openbsd derived setup in the same vein called security router. https://lobste.rs/s/phjkbl/opnsense_switches_back_vanilla_freebsd. Scroll down almost to the bottom. I never heard anything about this before today ; and it?s shutting down ? Does anyone know anything about it ? Should we preserve it on the NYCBUG mirrors ? On a side note anyone have any bsd project they would like us to archive ? I'm looking around for a spare ThinkPad that I can use for bare metal OpenBSD and/or Plan 9/9front. Doesn't have to be anything super fancy but I prefer either a T400 or X200 series... doesn't have to be latest and greatest. Hell, even an X201 will do fine. Only things are: A) it's in working order B) gotta be on the cheap C) I'm not working in the city right now so may have to be either shipped to me in NJ or I gotta take a day off to go the city to pick it up Let me know what's available and we'll take it from there. This also means you have the tools to create more software without any external packages. This helps make the BSDs a prime development platform. Despite this, there are many other programming languages out there, some of which are even used in production! Having access to those languages provides a double benefit: 1) it opens up the richness of programming language research and implementation to all interested *BSD users; and, 2) it opens up the BSDs to aficionados of these languages. Come follow one man's never-ending quest to port every known compiler to OpenBSD. We will explore some languages you know, some you don't, and discover the tricks necessary to bring up compiler system support to new platforms. We will learn how to be a good member of the language community, how to represent well your *BSD to a language community, and how you can even accidentally end up with your name buried in the GCC source tree! For Zoom meeting details, email to rsvp AT lists.nycbug.org by noon on the day of the meeting, and details will be sent on the day of the meeting. Q&A will be via IRC on Freenode, channel #nycbug. Speaker Biography Brian sometimes speaks at NYC*BUG. You've probably heard him talk about OpenBSD ports before. He has been a developer for OpenBSD since 2013, primarily focusing on ports. Brian is a Lecturer in the IT & Web Science program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, where he sometimes gets to teach with the BSDs!
