Actually, as I posted, I got it working. I figure I'll drop the
maintainer an email with a patch, see if he's interested, and if not,
put the patch on my Japanese in *nix page.

Unfortunately, however, as UTF-8 is supposedly becoming the de facto
standard, I can only get it working with EUC.
