Hi Matt,
I don't know about the hardware.
One possibility you might try is to download and use the
PC-BSD installer. It's a total rewrite of the install program
and you can use it to install a stock FreeBSD server with no
extra PC-BSD desktop bits.

Given all the issues surrounding the current project installer
you may find this a much more desirable option.
