here is what i did on my netBSD laptop

$ wpa_passphrase <network-ssid> <password> >>
/etc/wpa_supplicant_networks.conf

used ifconfig to find the interface name

then this script gets my wifi running

#!/bin/sh
wpa_supplicant -B -i <interface-name> -c
/etc/wpa_supplicant_networks.conf
sleep 8
# sometimes dhclient <interface-name> works as well depends on the setup
dhcpcd <interface-name>
# to print out if it worked or not
host nycbug.org

there is a way to list ssids with wpa_supplicant but i forget the
commands off hand

hope that helps
