Customer data is deduplicated, compressed, and encrypted before it
leaves each client platform. The keys are under the sole control
of the client systems' administrators. To the service, to AWS,
to any threat actor, even to any government with authority and a search
warrant, all customer data is a collection of random bits.

Blocks of client data are not confirmed as written until they are
stored in multiple AWS facilities in different geographical regions.
If memory serves, the service stores customer data in three different
facilities.
