i think it may be closer to what was not possible ten years ago is now 
technologically possible and available and some people are taking a stab 
at using this tech to improve the projects they are working on.  we 
obviously don't see eye to eye on this issue, but the good thing is we 
are discussing it in an open manner because it is still a community :)

as far as ubuntu...seems to me to just be a shitty business decision cut 
and dry.  i haven't seen any good engineering explanations as to how 
users would benefit from targeted advertising being coupled with an OS 
targeted mostly to a developer centric audience.
