Project Manager - Technology

A leading media firm with interests in publishing and licensing is seeking
an intelligent, proactive individual with strong leadership and
communication skills to lead the development of technology products at the
company.

The right person will have a background that includes years of experience in
managing software development and IT infrastructure projects as well as
mature skills in requirements gathering.

The role that the technology project manager will play at the company will
be that of one of the most important liaisons between the business and
technology sides of the firm. The ideal person will be quick to understand
how the business operates and then will be able to rapidly create
requirements documents that can be used to form agreement and consensus
between the business and technology departments about how the business
should be supported by technology. Around that consensus, a technology
architecture will be created to meet the needs of the business. The
technology project manager will play a leading role in planning and
executing on project to improve current systems to create the desired
architecture.

To play this role, it is assumed that the technology project manager is able
to perform the following tasks well:

. Gathers business requirements using established methodology and develops

documentation resulting in functional specifications and project plans

. Works with business manager to draft proposals for capital expenditures

. Manages projects day-to-day to adhere to plan 

. Defines and manages team expectations regarding scope and responsibilities

. Assists Development directors with overall resource management of the

department

. Coordinates with Director of Production and Fulfillment on resources

needed for development of "front end" deliverables including usability
documents and graphic design

. Establishes and maintains project communications

. Sets project quality and performance standards and ensures the quality of

project deliverables

. Working with IS financial analyst, tracks and maintains project expenses

against budget

. Assesses and manages risk within the project

 

 

Requirements: 

. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in a technical

area 

. At least 3-4 years software project management experience 

. Significant experience and knowledge of best practices in requirements

gathering

. Experience and knowledge of best practices in usability analysis

. Ability to collaborate 

. Formal training in project management methodology a plus
