 Software Architect - Online Advertising Systems

The New York Times Company, a leading media company with 2010 revenues of

This position is for a Software Architect in the group that builds the
nytimes.com online advertising system. This custom-built system serves tens
of billions of ad impressions on a monthly basis to over 50 million unique
visitors.****

*Specific responsibilities include:*

Designing and architecting future versions of the advertising platform

Developing and maintaining the core online advertising system as well as
its APIs****

Working with a larger team that builds and maintains the online advertising
campaign management system****

Supporting the live system in a 24x7 production environment****

Providing tools, interfaces and APIs for other developers to integrate
their web applications with the advertising system****

Interface with key users of the system to understand their use of it and
needs for improvement.****

*The candidate will have:*

- At least 10 years of experience developing high-performance C++ systems
on Unix and Linux****

- Deep expertise in highly scalable web development****

- Deep expertise in multithreaded and network programming****

- Strong knowledge of relational databases (Oracle and MySQL)****

- Strong knowledge of advanced algorithms****

- Strong scripting knowledge (Perl, Python, etc.)****

- Very strong written and verbal skills****

- Strong sense of collaboration with other developers and end-users.****

- Strong troubleshooting skills****

- Strong unit and regression testing skills****

- Online advertising knowledge a plus****
