There's a HUGE distance between "me and a couple friends sharing a
computer for insignificant purposes" and the huge swaths of computer
users and the "thousands to millions of users who require 99.999%
uptime" you referred to in another reply. From what I see, the original
poster just wants to operate a web store. The fact that he's buying a
$100 host tells me he's not getting huge traffic, but even the setup
he's using can accommodate one sale and two lookiloos per hour, and if
the average sale is $10.00, that's $14,400/day. 

If and when he gets to that point, he'll need to, and be in a position
to, outsource to extremely talented people. But until then, he doesn't
need scalability: He needs to open his store quickly and all he wants is
the name of shopping cart software that runs on OpenBSD, and he can take
care of the rest.

I'll add one thing: Paypal has some rudimentary shopping cart
capabilities such that the business owner never needs to take
possession of credit card details: A real plus if you *do* get hacked.
