There's no need to segregate answers between the different compartments 
of the internet.

talk can and has functioned as a technical support/discussion list.

There are higher quality BSD lists, like FBSD-hackers for instance.

This is a talk list, which can mean whatever you want it to mean, and 
that means whatever the subscribers make it.

Personally, I would love to see this list be more like those heavier 
lists. I also know that many people on this list are actively involved 
in other lists.  We have the "weight" on this list to be heavier, as 
there are a number of committers, developers, big time sysadmins, etc., 
but this is a voluntary list that is newer than the other heavier duty 
ones.

There's really no way to force lists to be one thing or another, but we 
can provide some direction.  I don't think the "peripheral/etc" 
comments should be muted. . .  I mean, is there a better place to ask 
for the cheapest cat 5e cable in midtown?
