The other day I had an adaptec RAID card mark a drive in a mirror dead
based on the SMART info. To add insult to injury, the other drive in the
mirror did not have SMART errors, but it also got marked bad about an hour
later and was clearly having troubles.
While in general I'm learning that these Adaptec RAID controllers just
kind of suck, they apparently have a number of ways of deciding if a drive
is "bad" and one of those is SMART.
