Apologies for forgetting to include this information:
Its FreeBSD 6.2
. The kernel is custom built using the same config as GENERIC,
but with the "driver atapicam" option added. Hardware is a Compaq R3000
laptop,
ATI IXP chipset with an NEC DVD-RW drive.
